But even this old hand at recycling admits that he was stumped by how to dispose of some unwanted electrical items &#8211; toys and smart devices among them. Until now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a family we care about sustainability and current matters that have had a major impact &#8211; such as racism and Black Lives Matter,&#8221; says Sam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The family recycles \u201cas much as we can and as often as we can\u201d to help the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Not knowing what to do with old electricals is a blocker<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>So what prevents them recycling all their old electricals? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One barrier is not knowing how to recycle certain products safely and securely.&nbsp;Sam is not alone. Millions of us hang on to old smart devices because we&#8217;re not sure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recycleyourelectricals.org.uk\/faq\/how-do-i-delete-my-data\/\">how to delete personal data <\/a>on them safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">\u201cWe have a community on social media for the residents of our street, which has been a great platform for recycling smaller electricals.\u201d<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus, he says \u201cWe have so many.\u201d By the time their son was two years old their house was \u201coverflowing\u201d with electrical toys and games, Sam explains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They would give away most of those items to friends and family, sell some on eBay or take them to charity shops. \u201cBut can you believe that no one wanted the robot dinosaur or the tablet computers?\u201d he told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/davidrvetter\/2020\/07\/16\/our-electrical-device-addiction-is-killing-the-planet-heres-what-we-can-do-about-it\/#56e2cfc23f11\">Forbes <\/a>magazine recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, tablets were among the things that accumulated, unused, at home.
