More than 50% of people who bin their old electricals say it\u2019s because they don\u2019t know where or how to recycle them, according to research commissioned by Material Focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it\u2019s why an estimated 140 million unused cables are gathering dust in UK homes. Enough to wrap around the Earth five times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recycleyourelectricals.org.uk\/assets\/l-little-spring-clean-2021-social-media-pack\/\">Little Spring Clean<\/a> set out to change all that. And Eilidh quickly wrapped her head around the detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In truth the Little Spring Clean is a simple idea &#8211; just a tweak to the decluttering we\u2019ve all been doing during Covid-19 lockdowns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\">&#8220;When you are having your spring clean don\u2019t forget about those old small electricals hiding away.&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Separate out the small old electricals. Gather them up in a bag. And finally find your nearest recycling point using our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recycleyourelectricals.org.uk\/electrical-recycling-near-me\/\">locator<\/a>, or wait for collection day if your local council provides one. It\u2019s good for the planet and the economy. A clincher for Eilidh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you recycle electricals in the right way, almost all the materials get processed in the UK and become a valuable commodity,\u201d she writes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eilidh was encouraged to learn that the materials salvaged from recycled electricals can be made into new laptops, bicycles, playground gear, even life-saving medical equipment. \u201cThe most important thing is that they don\u2019t end up in landfill,\u201d she writes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo when you are having your spring clean don\u2019t forget about those old small electricals hiding away.
